DHC 1 Match Report

Without doubt there were some good vibrations resonating round the Al Rayan hockey stadium as DHC 1 prepared to take on last year's league champion, Wanderers. With crowd favourite, Luke Davies returning from injury and a full squad of 16, the DHC players looked like they were born to run. Furthermore, the pre-match team talk was nothing short of inspirational: "Imagine", coach Rouse requested, "the victory, picture it in your head. In this game the winner takes it all, if we lose this, we have no chance of winning the league. Do not just let it be, you must take the match by its neck and paint it black, enjoy yourselves and have the time of your life.

And so it was. Well...for twenty minutes at least, the team played like a bat out of hell. Indeed, some might say that DHC played some of their best ever hockey during the initial stages. Much like the football giants, Barcelona, the ball was retained with panache and the Wanderers did not how to counter such supersonic play. Every player was working together and a number of half chances were fashioned for the forwards.

Yet, unfortunately, DHC could not quite maintain such zestful play for the first half and Wanderers started to started to believe in themselves a bit more and accordingly, they started to apply some pressure. Yet, despite this, they were unable to get the ball in the net - controversial goalkeeper, Joshua Dawkins was on fire and he made numerous saves from short corners and open play. However, eventually, the pressure did tell and Wanderers managed to secure the precious goal.

Despite being a goal down, the squad was congratulated at half time by the coach, "you guys really have the eye of the tiger today, your play is a joy to the world!", Rouse exclaimed.

With such lavish praise still ringing in their ears, the second half saw the DHC players begin to move like Jagger again and further chances were created for hardworking strikers, de Cock Buning and Breden. Yet, DHC could not quite get the equaliser. Perhaps the best chance fell to Beauford Armado but unfortunately he was left looking like a hound dog when he was unable to force his deflection past the keeper.

So, despite putting in an excellent performance, the team lost 1-0 to a strong Wanderers outfit. The team were far from downhearted however, in fact, rampaging left back, Alex Waters claimed, "I know that everybody hurts after a losing such a close game, but I've got a feeling that we will win our next two matches".

I for one am a believer in these powerful words.

DHC 1 Match Reports:

Firstly, I must apologise to all those avid readers out there, I know you have bee

n waiting with baited breath for my next exciting match report, but unfortunately a hamstring injury has impaired my literary abilities until now (thanks for all your cards, presents and kind messages of support).

So, three games have now passed for the first team who are now plying their trade in the first division and unfortunately the campaign could not have got off to a worse start. Despite inspirational coach Brian Rouse claiming before the game that we are the "best team in the league" and our opponents, 'QHF' were the "the second best", his prediction was slightly awry - we lost 10-0!

Whilst the QHF team do include a number of very impressive players who have been cherry picked from other countries, this was a poor result which I can only write about now after three weeks have passed. The pain lives on, but it has subsided a little. Still, there are a number of excuses which we can cling onto. Firstly, a number of our dynamic players such as Irish threesome, Steve Bredin, 'D' and Amy Macfarland were missing, as was our goalkeeper, 'Red' Josh Dawkins. Furthermore, a number of our players were carrying injuries, indeed, at times it seemed that our stand in goalkeeper, John Warren was the most dynamic player on the pitch. Still, at least DHC stalwart, Bill returned to the one off game looking incredibly tanned leading to several admiring glances from the onlooking spectators. Plus, it was good to see long term injury loss, Frederic Frans who was back in the team for the first time this season and enjoyed making some of his famed meandering runs from defence.

After several hours of counselling and shock therapy, the team regrouped to take on DHC 2. Rumours were circulating throughout the Arabian Gulf that perhaps the time was ripe for the second team to pull off an amazing shock; the seconds certainly looked psyched up for the occasion, buoyed by wearing their 'slimming' new blue kit for the first time. Unfortunately for the seconds, the first team dominated the game for large parts and they were on the back foot for large swathes of the game. However, young Henry Thorpe managed to score an excellent goal for the 2's and the game was played in a very sporting manner.

This brings us to yesterday's game against UHQ, a team the 1's had beaten heavily during the second division. However, it was soon clear that UHQ had improved immeasurably since that last meeting, proving to be tough opponents to break down. Fortunately, the diminutive, Adrian Boote was on form from the penalty spot scoring a superb flick into the top corner and a slightly fortuitous 'mis-flick' during the first half. This lessened the pressure on DHC and there were some excellent passages of play at times with Boote especially running hard in the midfield. A new diamond system had been introduced by Brian Rouse and this sporadically functioned well, it will be interesting to see how this system progresses in the future. A number of other experiments were also made most notably with Menno 'go go gadget arms' Mooij chancing his arm(s) at sweeper.

The match ended 3-0, which perhaps was a lower scoreline than many hoped but the team played well and should have confidence moving onto the next game.

Qatar Hockey Cup got off to a flying start

A surprise result against MIC saw DHC disappointingly crash out of the inaugural cup competition, losing 4-3 in a closely fought game.

The match was punctuated with frustrating decisions both on and off the field of play - not only was the first half cut by a number of minutes, DHC also suffered from two disallowed goals and a number of contested decisions. Tempers frayed on a number of occasions and it appears that a number of individuals perhaps became doubly frustrated with the early dominance shown by MIC who were 3-1 up when the half time hooter sounded.

DHC did dominate the second half with Domenic Cunningham in particular starting to get into the groove, but the massed MIC defence managed to suffocate most attacks. Furthermore, despite a whole host of short corner opportunities, DHC found it hard to convert these into goals.

Yet, with the exciting introduction of the defensive maverick, Luke Davies and powerhouse forward, Beauford Armado, things did start to look up.  Armado in particular began to link successfully with dynamic right back, Alex Waters and the silky forward Rene Partl to produce some good passages of play which led to DHC pulling a goal back.

MIC rarely threatened the DHC goal during the second half, and when they did, goalkeeper Joshua Dawkins (and on one occasion, the post) was able to stop any of the half chances. Indeed, the veteran defensive kingpin, Colin Milton was enjoying such a quiet afternoon, he was able to allow his fellow centre back, Stephin Bredin to spend most of his time foraging in the opposition’s penalty area!

A dramatic end to game unfortunately saw the usually imperious Thierry De Cock Buning narrowly missing the net from 1 yard in the last play of the game.

Coach Brian Rouse was left to rue the missed chances and poor passing. Indeed, rumours were circulating that he was seen chain smoking at the end of the match in an attempt to calm his nerves.

QH Cup Competition

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13-Jan-2012

Despite romping home to an incredibly convincing 13-0 victory against Gateway, a number of the DHC players appeared slightly downhearted after the game. Not only did the tyrannical coach, Brian Rouse damn the players with faint praise claiming that 15% of the play was "dark, very dark", he also castigated the forward line for missing as many as eight clear cut chances. Zimbabwean, Beauford Armado in particular was singled out by Rouse for being profligate and consequently, looked very glum after the post-match dressing down.

Nevertheless, there are reasons to be cheerful, DHC have now claimed the 2 nd division title with an incredible 58 to the good goal difference and the team is looking very settled and prepared for the sterner challenges that lie ahead.
At times, the ball pinged around the pitch leaving the aged opposition looking very statuesque. Indeed, the first ten minutes saw four excellent goals fly into the net; Christian Last, Menow Mooij, Ivo Goedman and Domenic Cunningham all finished athletically from a series of slick passes from one side of the pitch to the other.

From then on, the goals tally slowed as DHC started to lose a little cohesion. Yet, the team continued to push forward at will and the scoreboard ticked over steadily with Domenic Cunningham helping himself to two more long range goals from penalty corners. Particular credit must go to the ex-Ireland Under 18 international, Amy McFarland in the midfield engine room; she really gave an exemplary display to the on looking centre midfield hopeful, Henry Thorpe of how to recycle the ball quickly and effectively

Importantly, the game did finish with a flourish of goals from the unfortunate Beauford Armado. After a couple of swings and misses, the striker continued to demand the ball from his team mates (although his cries of "please" had an air of desperation) and he managed score a hat trick within the last 10 minutes of the game.

FIH Player of the Year shortlists announced
The International Hockey Federation is pleased to announce the nominations for the FIH Player of the Year Awards. The annual prizes recognise the finest hockey players in the game as voted for by athletes representing the world's best international teams.

Nominations for this prestigious prize have been put together by a panel of selected coaches from many of the world’s best international teams, including Max Caldas (Netherlands), Adam Commens (Australia), Carlos Retegui (Argentina), Lee Bodimeade (USA), Michael Behrmann (Germany), Danny Kerry (England & Great Britain) and Mark Hager (New Zealand) on the women’s side, and Ric Charlesworth (Australia), Markus Weise (Germany), Jason Lee (England & Great Britain), Pablo Lombi (Argentina), Shane McLeod (New Zealand) and Colin Batch (Belgium) on the men’s side. The winners will be determined from these shortlists by a vote amongst the players.

The nominees for the men’s FIH Player of the Year award bring together familiar faces with two of hockey’s current top stars Jamie Dwyer and Teun de Nooijer, who have taken the top honours four and three times respectively, and have kept the title between them since 2003 with only one exception. Fellow nominee Moritz Fürste is the driving force for Germany’s midfield and is nominated despite missing out on the Owen G Glenn FIH Champions Trophy due to injury, as is Germany captain Max Müller, the leader of one of international hockey’s most solid defensive lines. The fifth contender for the men’s top individual honour is Australian Eddie Ockenden, who at 24 years of age is the youngest amongst the nominees in the category, but has already won virtually all major titles with his team and manages to stand out in a side brimming with talent and skill. After claiming the Young Player of the Year in 2008, the Player of the Year would complete his collection.

On the list of candidates for the women’s FIH Player of the Year award, the name standing out is of course that of “the Magician”, as she is known in her country, Luciana Aymar, who has claimed the prize an incredible eight times since 2001. Challenging her in a year that has seen Argentina struggle a little after their hugely successful 2010 are 34-year old Germany striker Natascha Keller and 33-year-old South African Pietee Coetzee. Keller has had yet another brilliant year, leading her team into the final of the EuroHockey Nations Championships where she was also named as the best player of the tournament. South African Pietie Coetzee is nominated after a sensational comeback following five years of away from international hockey. On 21st June 2011, Coetzee became the all-time leading goal scorer in women's international hockey, a record she looks likely to continue improving in 2012. Dutch captain Maartje Paumen, arguably women’s hockey’s most dangerous penalty corner flicker, steered her team to gold at both the 2011 Rabo FIH Champions Trophy and EuroHockey Nations Championships, taking the top scorer title in both competitions, while China midfielder Li Hongxia also caught the eyes of the nominating panel as a stand-out player this year.

The shortlists for the FIH Young Player of the Year awards showcase some of the most exciting up-and-coming talents of the sport. For the women, the contenders include Willemijn Bos from the Netherlands, who received the Most Promising Player award at this year’s Rabo FIH Champions Trophy in Amsterdam in July; Katelyn Falgowski from the USA who was one of the driving forces in her team’s first ever Pan-American Games title and Black Sticks player Charlotte Harrison who despite her tender age is one of her teams most experienced players, having amassed 127 caps since her national team debut at the age of 16. Completing the line-up are Stacey Michelsen, a dangerous striker who like Harrison is also from New Zealand,  and Netherlands keeper Joyce Sombroek, who continued to shine this year after hitting the scene in spectacular fashion in the 2010 FIH World Cup.

On the men’s side, the FIH Young Player of the Year nominees feature top strikers Florian Fuchs from Germany and Nick Wilson from New Zealand, both considered to be amongst the most dangerous forwards in the world. They are joined by Florent van Aubel, who has become a key player in the hugely successful Belgium team that achieved direct qualification for the London 2012 Olympic Games as well as winning the recent FIH Champions Challenge 1. The remaining nominees are Billy Bakker, one of the Dutch young guns who played a crucial role in the Oranje’s second place finish at this year’s EuroHockey Nations Championship, and Matthew Swann, a regular member of the all-dominating Kookaburras despite being one of the team’s youngest players.

The winner of the men’s awards will be presented with their prize at the Owen G Glenn FIH Champions Trophy in Auckland by FIH President Leandro Negre. The ceremony will take place during half time of one of the matches on Saturday, 10 December 2011 (exact timing to be confirmed). The women’s awards will be presented during the Argentina FIH Champions Trophy in Rosario.

The 2011 FIH All-Star teams will be decided by public vote on the FIH Website between 12th and 21stDecember.

Dear DHC Members,

As you are hopefully already aware, Doha Hockey Club will be hosting the 2nd Annual Qatar 6s Hockey tournament on the  27th of January 2012. This year's event proved to be a roaring success with over 10 teams participating from Doha and across the GCC.
We would like to make next Qatar 6s even bigger and better, but we can't do this alone!

The tournament relies upon volunteers to ensure things run smoothly in order for everyone to have an entertaining and enjoyable time. For this reason, we'd like to take this opportunity to ask for anyone who thinks that they would be able to help out either in the planning stage, or on the day, to make themselves known to one of the committee.

The types of roles we need people to help out with are detailed below. Remember - this is your club, so please try to help out if you can.

  • Planning committee members (responsible for organizing the running order on the day, coordinating catering,  sponsors, teams umpiring )

  • Scorers/tech table (to collate scores from the umpires and update the groups/ knock out progress)

  • Team captains for DHC teams (Need to organize team list, kit and make sure your team is on time for their matches)

  • Catering ensure all food orders are fulfilled) – RED Bull & Nestle discussion in progress

  • Pitch/ marquee set up (Oversee arrangements for goals being set up the night before the event and that the marquee is set up in the correct location) – We have all this details from the 1 st  event . So its mainly following up and making sure everything is ready on the day

Many thanks,
DHC Qatar 6s Committee 2012

Friday 28th October

With DHC 2 having an off-week on the schedule, DHC 1 were the only Club team playing this weekend with a game against United Hockey Qatar.  Current League standings had both teams leading the pack so this was billed as a top of the table clash and a pointer to the playoffs.  UHQ had downed DHC 2 in a previous game so the Club side were keen to make up for that disappointment and keep up the strong start to the season.  In a similar vein to the previous week's game against Al Rayaan 2 the tactic of choice of the opposition was likely to be a direct game which punishes any sloppiness so DHC were taking nothing for granted.

Coach and captain had preached patience in the early minutes of the game and this proved sage advice as the team again started slowly, an factor in the match against Al Rayaan.  As predicted for their part UHQ played with two and often three attackers high up the pitch and looked to force the ball through, missing out their own midfield and attempting to bypass that of DHC.  A disciplined approach to the press and a coordinated defence meant that the team overall let little through allowing Josh to play a "chairleeding" role rather than anything more physical.  Going forward DHC were beginning to play some super hockey in periods.  Good movement from the starting front-line of Christian, Thierry and Adrian was causing problems for the UHQ defence and creating chances.  The quick ball movement was creating space down both flanks but particularly down the right and strong cuts baseline were proving fertile ground.  In the end however, the first goals came not from the baseline but the ball being fed in to the circle from the 23 meter line.  Christian, cleverly placed directly in front of the keeper, was able to collect the ball turn and fire into the net putting together a hatrick in the space of a fruitful 15 minute spell.

DHC then freshened up the midfield and attack with the introduction of Menno, Stephen and Amy keeping the pressure on and creating more chances.  The changes did not break the overall pattern of good play and DHC were able to capitalise further going in to the break up 6-0.   Ivo Goedman added added the fourth with a well taken reverse and a fifth a few minutes later with Graham Storrie adding the sixth.

The second half continued in much the same vein with DHC on the attack and UHQ looking to counter with perhaps even more attackers hanging high up the pitch as they sought to go 'double or quits'.

Whilst last week the new penalty corner had proved a formidable attacking weapon for DHC this week it did not seem to be working quite so smoothly  However, there were three goals in the second half from this avenue with Graham, Stephen and Adrian getting their names on the scoresheet.  Stephen scored from a well worked set piece and Adrian took advantage of the routine which has the defenders outnumbered to drive to the top of the circle and had an unchallenged shot as the defenders stood off wondering which of the attacking options to cover.  There were plenty of missed chances also however and whilst some were undoubtedly the work of good goalkeeping a fair few must be characterised as 'misses'.

The defence was still relatively unchallenged but this did allow the full backs Luke and Alex to support the midfield with strong overlapping runs.  Josh was also untroubled but continued to marshall the defence to ensure discipline was maintained and concentrate on ensuring the attackers were given limited opportunity to spoil the clean sheet.

Both sides had enjoyed a good working relationship with the umpires who displayed a deft touch but unfortunately DHC did see time on the bench with a green and yellow card brandished midway through the second half.  The coach re-jigged the formation to take account and when DHC were returned to full strength continued with an extra link player to put more pressure on further up the pitch.

Ivo completed the scoring and his own hatrick with a final goal in the last minute of play.

In the end a 10-0 victory which cements DHC 1's spot at the top of the League with two games to go after the Eid break.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Friday 21st October

DHC 1 followed up on the previous 'derby' fixture versus DHC 2 with their second game of the season and opponents Al Rayaan 2.  Although two weeks had passed, the testing start to the season proved good preparation for a different style of opposition who play a physical game which has proven to be the downfall of many a team.  So, nothing was being taken for granted as DHC looked to continue to build momentum as the intensity of the League picked up. In addition, earlier in the day DHC 2 had won their game 4-3 against Al Fowriya Tigers and so DHC 1 were looking to make it a double for the Club.

DHC got off to a slightly slow start hampered by a lack of structure and possibly a desire to push the pace a little too much.  Al Rayaan, for their part, were employing a high attacking line and playing a direct game which DHC took a little time to come to grips with.  Having settled in after the slow 10 minutes DHC's player and ball movement began to tell with the midfield, marshaled by Domenic Cunningham, stamping its authority and creating chances for the forwards.  The pressure was mounting and a series of quick passing moves saw goals from open play and the new 'short corner'.

Well executed, the new penalty corner experiment is tough to defend despite the ability of defending forwards to come back when the ball is in play.  On this day DHC had the execution operating smoothly with the combination of Adrian, Domenic, Christian, Ivo and Thierry taking it in turns to cause problems for the Al Rayaan defence.  Thierry DeCock Buning was in particularly potent form doing what all good strikers do and seeming to be in the right place at the right time to take advantage of good lead-up play; Thierry scored 3 in the first half.  As a consequence DHC went in to the half time break with a strong lead of 6-0, the other goals coming from Christian.   The defence had coped reasonably well during the first 35 minutes, with the long ball causing only minor problems when an interception did not come off or the crash ball otherwise eluded their attention.  Despite this, the ever present nature of a lurking attackers positioned almost in Josh's circle meant vigilance was required.

With the coach demanding more of the same in the second half DHC continued to push forward but the fluency of movement was not as it might have been.

As the level of chat increased some baffling umpiring left a couple of DHC players warming the bench for two minutes each despite their being little evidence that anything untoward had taken place.  Another moment of controversy came with Al Rayaan 'scoring' a goal when a hit from outside the circle ended up in the back with the only apparent touch coming from a DHC player.  Some polite discussion from Josh (without helmet) and a variety of defenders saw the decision correctly reversed and the clean sheet remained intact.

Further goals from Stephen and Domenic, as well as a further 2 for Thierry did move the scoreboard with the pick of the bunch from Christian requiring a full length dive to take the glory!

Some of the team play was even described by the Coach as "textbook" which coming from Brian was praise indeed!

In the end another comprehensive win for DHC with the final tally 11-0.

Friday 21st October

VDHC2 4- AFGHC2 3

The match between VDHC 2s and AFGHC2 was always going to be a key match in the calendar for both teams. The match started well for the 2s with good passing around the pitch and several forays into the oppositions half. When the first goals came after 5 minutes it was a fitting touch that it was Pete Cairns that scored as this was his last game. AFGHC2 were not rolling over to have their bellies tickled though and using their new player Dimitrious made several very dangerous, penetrating runs down the middle of the pitch. These attacks tested the discipline of the 2s defence but they managed to hold on and frustrate the Greek play maker. Henry and Stan paired up nicely in midfield and it was justly rewarded when Stan scored a cheeky goal that had bounced off of the keeper. This was disallowed, but undeterred Stan scored with a low drive on 18minutes.

After the VDHC 2 defence were slow to react to a free hit, Dimitrious made a breakaway and scored a superb individual goal. This was followed 3 minutes later by a second for AFGHC when a crash ball took a deflection from Big Mike and landed plum at the feet of A Ahad, who wasted no time in flicking the ball into the goal. The game was really on now and unhappy memories of last week's defeat were coming back to haunt the 2s. Henry received a green for a still unconfirmed reason which meant that the last few minutes until half time were jittery ones.

Half time and a stern talking to from Brian refocused the team and this game was there for the taking. Despite the 2nd half starting brightly with Stan making good running down the left of the pitch probing the AFGHC defence. The 2s were looking dangerous every time they got the ball but against the flow of play Dimitrious again displayed an extraordinary level of personal skill to slice through the defence and score from the right side of the D. Paul managed to keep everyone's heads up and despite some obvious obstruction by the opposition forwards Nasser kept everything out of his net. At the other end of the pitch Pete finally got the goal the 2s had been chasing to level the match. Another goal followed shortly but this was judged to have gone in through the side netting. One decision too far for Vik, who lost his cool and was sent from the pitch with a yellow card. 10 players played better than 11 and Zac managed to put the 2s back in the lead. The last period of the match saw Arif mark the Gateway star player off of the pitch and with constant encouragement from the 1s, who were arriving for their late match. A very strong defensive display from Andy and Tara kept things at the back solid. Hearts were stopped minutes from full time when AFGHC made one final push capitalising on a defensive error but this petered out to nothing and the match finished VDHC2 4 - AFGHC2 3.

The first game of the 2011/2012 season was the dreaded 1sts vs 2nds match, played under the still searing Doha sun at 3pm.  As usual it was a hard fought contest, with plenty of tough tackling and a good tempo.  Given the relatively short pre-season both teams handled the heat well, although rolling substitutions were used to good effect!

DHC 2s got the scoring under way with a well taken goal early in the first half.  Zak was first to pounce on a loose ball in the circle and finished well on his reverse side.  The lead was short lived however, and within a minute Adrian Boote had DHC 1 back on level terms, and Ivo Goedman followed this up reacting quickly in the circle to give DHC 1 an early 2-1 lead.  There then followed a midfield battle for control of the game with Henry Thorpe dictating play for DHC 2 and Amy Mc Farland showing no loss of form over the summer for DHC 1.  The sustained pressure for DHC 1 paid off though and they had established a strong lead at half time with goals from Christian Last and newcomer Stephen Bredin adding to a further goal from Ivo.

The new penalty corner experiment proved an entertaining addition to this year's league, the new rule stating that the ball must travel outside the 23m line before it can be played into the circle, as well as a change to the number of attacking and defending players lining up for the corner.  Although there was only one such penalty corner in the first half, the second half saw 4 being played out, and although the new format should certainly favour the attacking team there may be a "settling in" period required!!

The second half, like the first, saw six goals being scored.  2 more for Christian Last, 2 for Menno Mooij, another from Zak and a goal for Alex Waters, proving he hasn't lost his strikers instinct despite now playing as a defender, left the score at 10-2 at full time.  A comprehensive win for DHC 1, but DHC 2 acquitted themselves well and with some stronger players returning in the coming weeks have a good season to look forward to.

Smooth start for Qatar hockey league

The 5th Edition of the   Qatar National Hockey League got off to a smooth start at the Rayyan hockey ground.

The event has attracted seven teams in the second division with the latest entries being Messaid Industrial City, Al Khor Malaysians and Shabab Qatar, a team comprising Qatari youngsters and expatriate schoolboys.

The first game of the Season saw the two teams representing Vodafone Doha Hockey Club (VDHC) face-off against each other. The match ended 10-2 in favour of VDHC 1. Christian Last -3, Ivo Godeman-2, Menno Mooij- 2,  and a goal each by Adrian Boote, Stephan Bredin, Alex Walters made it 10 for VDHC-1 while Zoheb Kizilbash scored a brace for VDHC-2.  Last was judged the Most Valuable Player (MVP)  Best players chosen were Amy Mc Farland for VDHC 1 and Henry Thorpe for VDHC 2.

Match  2 was  between United Hockey Qatar (UHQ) and the debutants  MIC. The first half saw a tough battle between the two sides. Yellow UHQ only managed to score one past the MIC defences in the 15th minute of the first half thanks to Mario D’Costa.

The second half however saw a well settled UHQ moving precisely and steadily scoring four more goals in the second half. The scorers were MVP Conway Sinclair (43rd minute), Mohammed Hashir (51st minute), best player for UHQ Arjun Chandra Prakash (60th minute) and Sneddon Pereira (62nd minute).

The game ended with a 5-0 victory for UHQ. MIC, mostly former PAK green players, showed great skills but very poor fitness.

Rizwan Khalil of MIC was judged the best player for the team. Match 3 was played between debutants Malaysians Al Khor (MAK) and Al Fowriya Gateway Hockey Club (AFGHC) Tigers.  The classic score line of 3-2 in favour of AFGHC Tigers tells of a hard fought battle. This was in fact ‘a tale of two halves’.  MAK’s best player for the game Mohamed Irwan scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute and was followed by Arif Taufer in the 30th minute.
