On Friday Doha Hockey Club hosted the first Qatar 6s international Hockey tournament. The event at Al Rayyan sports club, which was co-sponsored by, Vodafone, Redbull, Nestle and Quiznos, involved 12 teams from Doha and Dubai. The group stage was closely fought with only a few points separating the teams. The semi-finals were even more electrifying with Qapex  Rayyan narrowly beating the QHA Juniors team. Wanderers who had looked strong all day continued to dominate and beat Dubai with a golden goal to secure their place in the final.

After a scrappy start Wanderers scored first with a well placed strike by Juned Coutinho  and chased a second goal fearlessly. They were caught on the break and after some heroic defending the pressure that Qapex Rayyan applied paid off with a penalty stroke awarded from the half way line. Unfortunately the Wanderers allowed their passion for the game spill over into indiscipline and one of their number were sent from the field with a yellow card for dissent. Qapex didn't waste the chance to draw level and at 1-1 there was still everything to play for. Try as they might, Qapex could not make the fact they were playing 5 men count and normal time finished with the scores tied. The deadlock was unbroken during extra time and so the game was decided on penalty strokes from the half way line. The pressure got to both teams with many stokes missed but Wanderers held their nerve better and won 3-2. The day was ended with all the teams joining together for a BBQ. Despite Wanderers taking home the trophy Hockey was the real winner on the day.

Doha Hockey Club welcomes new members of all ages and ability, male and female.  Training takes place on Tuesday nights at Al Rayyan Sports Club and a dedicated Ladies only training session is held on Friday mornings.
